oaks at salem wedding photography – kim & jeff

Wedding Photography

When Kim originally contacted me in May last year, she hadn’t even booked her venue yet, so it was clear photography was a pretty big priority for her. As soon as we spoke, I knew we were on the same wavelength and I was so pleased when she booked me pretty much straight away. Happily, she did select a beautiful venue pretty quickly thereafter! And so it was that a fortnight ago, I took the arduous 6-minute drive from my house to The Oaks at Salem to shoot Kim & Jeff’s wedding a couple of weeks ago.

We were forecast storms, and it did rain a little in the morning, but I always say to wait and see what happens on the day and we couldn’t have asked for better weather! It was a gorgeous early-May day, not too hot and with beautiful sunlight that led to some pretty dramatic images.

Big thanks to the April and Veni at The Oaks for looking after Dajuan and me so well. As well as all the other vendors listed below.

And without further ado, here are my picks of the pics…

Another week and another time to look at something new. I thought it was time to actually show an image from a wedding ceremony, as I realise I have completely overlooked that side of things so far! Going back to the original themes I chatted about earlier on in this series, the areas I look for in my pictures are emotion, lighting and composition, and this week's image checks the boxes for me in all three departments.Taken from the back of the chapel with a 70-200mm lens, I was able to capture the first kiss of the bride and groom whilst remaining unobtrusive. It's important to me to be discrete and not draw attention to myself on the da ...

raleigh wedding photographer – image of the week: no. 11
People following this blog will know that I like to try to tell stories with my images and that one of my favourite parts of the day to cover is the preparation time when the bride is getting ready. This week's image shows the bride's mum helping her daughter into her dress, which is always an emotional highlight of the day. Something about putting the dress on makes everything so real and imminent, which can be quite a moment after months of planning and anticipation. Those same people following this blog will know that I am a big fan of keeping out of the way and just letting moments like this happen. The fact that the bride was position ...

cathy and jimmy’s cincinnati wedding
Rehearsal Dinner: The Queen City Club, Cincinnati, OH Wedding Ceremony: St. Ursula Academy, Cincinnati, OH Reception: The Green Residence, Anderson Township, OHThe weekend before we upped sticks to move to North Carolina, I had the honour of documenting Cathy and Jimmy's wedding for them. It was a long couple of days, but extremely fun and very rewarding indeed. Coverage started at the Queen City Club in downtown Cincinnati and continued the next morning as the girls got ready for the day ahead at Valenti salon. From there we headed back to the Green residence in Anderson Township, which was also the venue for the evening reception. Cat ...
