raleigh wedding photographer – samantha and jimmy’s greenville engagement session

Engagements

I recently took a trip down to Greenville, SC to shoot an engagement session for Samantha and Jimmy, whose wedding I will be documenting in October. I had spoken with them once or twice back in November last year, so it was really nice to hang out, have a couple of drinks and take some pictures together. They really are a fun couple with a lot of great chemistry, which really comes through in the pictures. It’s a bit of a cliché to say, but I definitely came away from the shoot having made two new friends, so I’m really looking forward to seeing them again on their big day.

The shoot itself threw up a couple of challenges as Greenville seemed to be the only place I came across on my 4 hour drive that had been hit by rain. A number of thunderstorms were rolling through, so we had to make the most of a dry spell while it lasted. Skies were overcast which meant we didn’t have to deal with harsh light, but it also meant that some of our options were limited with regards to getting creative. All in all though, Sam and Jimmy were great fun and really easy going, so we got a good number of nice pictures.

Regarding Greenville itself, it was my first time ever in South Carolina and I was really captured by the buzz on Main St. that day. It was great to see restaurants and bars with tables and chairs out on the pavements. There was an almost European vibe to the place, which was very cool indeed to see. I will definitely be going back to visit!

Anyway, here are some of my personal picks from the day. Thanks again to Sam & Jimmy for being such good sports!

Yesterday marked another milestone for me as I shot my first engagement session. Jenna and Ryan were the lucky couple and we had a fantastic hour walking around Cincinnati's Ault Park. We were blessed with some really great lighting as the sun was setting, so that, combined with the fact that Jenna and Ryan are such a fun couple, meant that we got some lovely images. I am very much looking forward to shooting their wedding next May! Geek info: Canon EOS 5D Ma ...

So, late last month I got the chance to photograph this fab couple for their Duke Gardens engagement photography session. Lauralee, Taylor and their cute pooch, Poppy, joined me one evening for a couple of libations at Geer St. Garden where we chatted and got to know each other a little bit. From there, we headed out for an autumn-themed engagement shoot around the gardens. The sunlight was beautiful and the chemistry between Lauralee and Taylor was amazing. Poppy was petty amazing too! :) Here are just a few faves from the session. Golden hour certainly lived up to its name!

Rain Stops Play - Well, actually it was the catalyst for a really fun (and different) engagement shoot with Melanie and Anthony. We met up at West End Wine Bar in Durham and were on our way out when the heavens opened and a summer rainstorm was suddenly unleashed upon us. It was a total downpour, so we headed back inside. The original plan was to wait it out, but as the rain never looked like letting up, we switched gears and started using the environment we were in for some portraits. Melanie and Anthony had originally wanted a vintage Hollywood vibe for their engagement session anyway, so we walked to some of the cool spots in downtown Durh ...
