I photograph most of the day as it naturally unfolds, paying attention to the conversations, reactions and small moments that are easy to miss. When portraits or family photographs need direction, I’ll step in clearly and keep things moving without turning that part of the day into a production. That balance gives you photographs with both spontaneity & structure, while still leaving plenty of room to enjoy the people you invited.
After more than 300 weddings since 2008, I’ve learned that every celebration finds its own pace. My job is to adapt to it and make the most of Chapel Hill’s historic architecture, shaded campus paths, gardens & quieter corners without ever making the photography feel more important than the wedding itself.

I like to use that sense of place without making it the whole story. Conversations on a porch, family gathering before the ceremony & the change from quiet afternoon light to a packed reception matter just as much as the wider photographs that show where everything happened.
During preparations and the ceremony, I’m watching for the conversations, reactions and fleeting moments that disappear as soon as people become aware of the camera. My approach is rooted in documentary storytelling, balanced with natural, artistic portraiture that makes the most of Chapel Hill’s historic architecture, shaded paths, open countryside & changing light.
There isn’t a right amount of time for portraits—only the amount that’s right for you. Some couples want just a handful of natural photographs before getting back to the party. Others want to spend more time using the setting, whether that means the grounds around The Carolina Inn, shaded campus paths or the open landscape at a barn venue. Some prefer plenty of guidance, while others hardly need any at all. My job is to understand what matters to you, shape that part of the day around your priorities and create the photographs you’ve imagined—without ever losing sight of what your wedding day is really about.

The Carolina Inn
The Carolina Inn has a classic Chapel Hill feel, with historic architecture, shaded courtyards & the UNC campus just outside the door. It works especially well for weddings where everything happens in one place, with plenty of variety for portraits without needing to send you all over town.
Barn at Valhalla
Barn at Valhalla has a relaxed countryside feel, with lakeside ceremony views, warm wood interiors & stone fireplaces that open onto the surrounding landscape. It’s the kind of venue where the day can move easily between indoors and out without ever feeling overly formal.
Union Grove Barn
Union Grove Barn has a relaxed rural feel, with weathered wood, open pasture & wooded areas giving us plenty of variety without needing to go far. The changing evening light works especially well here, particularly once the sun drops across the fields.

Before the wedding, I’ll work through the practical details with you and your planner so the photography fits naturally around the day rather than becoming another thing to manage. If I’m photographing somewhere new, I’m happy to visit in advance and work out the best options before we need them.

Before the wedding, I will learn how your chosen property flows, where guests naturally gather & which parts of the landscape matter most to you. The plan should support the celebration rather than turning every attractive corner into another required photograph.
During the wedding, I work quietly through the unscripted parts and bring everyone together efficiently when family photographs need structure. Portraits can then be created in a few short, well-chosen periods instead of one long session.
Your finished photographs are individually hand-finished & delivered in a private online gallery. Engagement sessions, handcrafted albums & hybrid film coverage can be added around the way you want to remember the day.
