We had Joe and his team for our wedding in Pinehurst NC in July 2022 and it was the easiest and best decision. We looked through a few different photographers and once we saw Joe’s work we did not even have to think. I loved how Joe really wanted to know what our wants and styles were but also very open about his style and making sure he was the right fit for us. On the day I really felt like he had my back with me being stressed (I’m the bride). He could tell I was stressed but kept reassuring me which was so helpful because everyone and everything moves so fast on the day. I know too that the stress would not turn out great in the pictures so again I appreciated him caring about his work but also the pictures we will cherish for the rest of our lives. Joe was the exact style we wanted and needed, his work captured the beauty, colors, and most importantly the emotions of the day. Joe’s work, along with his second shooters’ work (we were honored to have Richard on our day), is timeless, authentic, classy, and full of deep emotion. From the moment my husband and I saw Joe’s photographs, we knew we found the photographer for us. It was also so special that Joe is English and so is my husband.

Joe’s talent shines in almost any setting. Our first set of engagement photos was in the rain, but he made them look romantic, using the gothic setting of Duke chapel to draw out some lovely artistic shots. After our wedding postponement due to Covid, we opted for a second engagement session. The use of light during golden hour on UNC campus was beautiful!

On our wedding day (August 28, 2021), Joe captured the emotion of it all. He isn’t a cheesy or an overly staged photographer. He stays in the background to let the day unfold naturally. Of course when we did the more formal portraits, he was efficient and prepared. Our families adored his humor and kindness, as he makes everyone feel at ease in front of the camera. The worst part of hiring Joe was when the wedding was over, and the journey came to an end.

Trust me!! Booking Joe as our weddIng photographer was literally the hands down BEST decision of my entire wedding! Word of advice – he books up fast as he is highly sought after and recommended by many brides and wedding vendors/venues as one of the best wedding photographers, so get him if you can!

Personally, I don’t like attention, I’m a very shy person and he broke me out of my shell! He lead me every step of the way. He was so professional, never felt intrusive and made me feel beautiful in every moment.

For me, my wedding photos where everything. I am the bride that cared less about the actual event and everything about capturing my day in order to re-live the lasting memories for years to come. Joe did exactly that and more!

I told Joe I didn’t want the typical wedding photos. I wanted something unique, something different. And this is where his creative mind takes off. He is true artist! I told Joe I wanted to venture into woods in search of some scenic photos. Literally those were my ONLY directions. Joe did all the leg work from there. Prior to our wedding he ventured into woods to scout ideal spots, sent me locations and suggested times of day to make the most of sunlight. For the record I never asked him to do this. The level of effort and work he put into prepping for the event showed in the end results and made our day seamless!

In the year of covid, our daughter’s wedding plans continued to change and morph from a Spring wedding of 300 to a small wedding of 11 in mid summer. Joe’s work is amazing – he really knows how to use light to create beautiful photographs that are like works of art! We received an astonishing number of photos: a good mix of color and b&w, and posed as well as many excellent candid shots. The payment process and the downloading of our images was easy and professional.
Joe was a delight to work with – he was very communicative during the planning process and respectful of the wedding party’s time during the actual event. Our venue was in Virginia, so a bit outside of his normal Raleigh area. Without me requesting it, he actually drove up to our venue a few weeks beforehand, to scope out the site! When I heard he did that, I knew we were in good hands.
His assistant, Erin, also took amazing photos and I feel like you can trust Joe 100% to hire quality assistant photographers. My only regret is not booking him for our rehearsal dinner and pre-ordering a wedding album from him! He truly is an excellent choice for your event!!!

When looking for a wedding photographer, we knew we wanted to work with a someone who would capture the day as it naturally happened, and not try to direct or pose every little moment. After speaking with Joe and looking at his portfolio, we knew instantly that his style and philosophy aligned with ours, and we hired him for our September 2019 wedding. We did not do engagement photos, so the first time I ever met Joe in person was on the wedding day! I knew his photos would be amazing, but he had never shot at our venue, so I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect.

Well, let me just say that Joe is an absolute master of wedding photography. There is so much that to being a wedding photographer: you have to keep track of schedules, manage personalities, adapt to the weather, capture every moment in changing conditions, edit thousands of photos, and deliver them in a short time span, among so much else. Joe did all of this, and more, with a level of professionalism and talent that I can’t even comprehend.

First, I’ll talk about the photos. Good god. The sheer number of stunning photos we got back, all of them beautifully edited, is astonishing. Literally thousands of photographs, each of them more beautiful than the last. On our wedding day, we let Joe do his thing and tried not to interject too many specific photo requests. I am so glad we did it that way, because Joe skipped the overdone Pinterest-inspired photos I thought I wanted, and instead shot an array of artistic, unique, and beautifully stylized images that genuinely capture the emotion (and craziness!) of our day. Moreover, Joe individually reviews and edits each photo, which adds so much to the finished product and really sets him apart from other photographers.

Aside from the photos, here are some more things I loved about working with Joe:

• He is prompt and direct in his communication, without fail. He is so on top of his shit, and it makes your life easier as bride/groom.
• He goes with the flow, but is assertive when he needs to be in order to keep things on track.
• He is on time, and he works his butt off the entire day. At one point I was genuinely concerned about how intensely he was working in the heat! Our guests even commented on how he seemed to be everywhere at once!
• He is very experienced and great at problem solving when you need it most. Rain delayed our ceremony and completely ate into our photo time, but he did such a great job of managing the changes and keeping things on track.
• Fabulous British sense of humor.
• The way that he delivers the photos to you is awesome. You can download them all from an online portal, which is an A+ on the user friendliness.

All in all, I just want to thank Joe from the bottom of my heart for how much he contributed to not just our wedding day, but our lives and memories. Our wedding was pretty wild with activity, and he captured every moment from family portraits to fireworks. We will cherish the photos forever. If you are reading this and considering a wedding photographer, I can’t recommend Joe enough.

I can’t recommend him enough.

Of course, his photos are stunning! I was originally interested because his photos of Duke Chapel are so incredible. He is an artist with a long veil! Joe also captured some wonderful photos at the reception and on the dance floor that I never expected would turn out so well!

He has a laid-back personality which is a much-needed calming influence during some very stressful times. I can’t thank him enough for putting up with a stressed-out bride, mothers/fathers, and an “energetic” bridal party ?. You can relax knowing Joe will create great shots!

Joe is really willing to make any photos you have in mind a reality. He made it very easy to have engagement photos where my husband and I met (small college in Massachusetts) and day-of photos at my parents’ house. I didn’t know that I wanted photos from the rehearsal until about one month beforehand – Joe was even flexible enough to shoot our rehearsal at the last minute! He will also send out a questionnaire before the big day to make sure you get the wedding photos that you want most.

I cannot emphasize enough what an exceptional job Joe and his assistant Richard did as our wedding photographers. Joe was the first vendor I booked after we had our date and location, which was super lucky as he is in high demand. His expertise in documentary and portrait style photography is immediately evident in his online portfolio, and completely sets him apart from other wedding photographers. His use of lighting and composition is simply STUNNING. When I called to inquire about his availability, Joe’s warmth and easy-going nature came through even over the phone. He met in person with my (now) husband and I, and sent us a detailed questionnaire to get to know us better and make sure he understood exactly what was most important to us to capture that day. Our other vendors were also excited to learn we hired Joe, as they enjoyed working with him previously. On the wedding day Joe and Richard were right on time and both had a great sense of humor that put everyone at ease. We wanted a full hour for our first look since we don’t have a lot of great photos of us as a couple. Joe scoped out sites all around the venue earlier that week to take full advantage of the time. We took a few formal family photos, mostly before the ceremony, so we were able to make it to most of our cocktail hour. The majority of the event I didn’t even notice he was there and was able to just relax and enjoy the time with my guests. Both Joe and Richard worked SO hard. They were down on the floor, up on chairs, constantly moving around the room, whatever was needed to get the most unique shots. They really did the beauty of our venue justice (The Cotton Room), but it is the intense emotion they captured from so many of our friends and family that we will truly treasure forever. Joe did a fantastic job editing the close to 900 photos he shared with us. The turnaround was impressive (6 weeks), especially considering this was peak wedding season and included a holiday weekend. Bottom line, it is SO critical to hire a wedding photographer with a lot of experience in the particular style that draws you in. For us, we wanted a more artistic and authentic representation of our day and there was no question Joe was the best choice for this. We are giddy about the results and can’t wait to share the photos with everyone with love.

I am the kind of bride who puts a lot of time and effort into researching each and every vendor till I find a perfect match. I rank my wedding vendors in an excel spreadsheet and Joe was my number one choice in the photographer category. My husband and I planned our wedding on a moderate budget but we knew we had to prioritize photography and videography because years from now, photos and videos will be the only physical things we have left with to remember our wedding day by. One of my husband’s groomsmen who is a wedding photographer recommended Joe and said he was the best wedding photographer in the area. When we saw Joe’s photos on his website and instagram, we knew we had to book him fast! Joe was so accommodating when my husband and I wanted our first look to be at a different location. He reached out to the location to ask for permission to take pictures there. On our wedding day, Joe drove me while his assistant, Erin drove my husband to our first look location. It was a pretty warm summer day and I am sure they were exhausted taking pictures for hours in the sun but both of them stayed enthusiastic and excited throughout the night. Joe and Erin were very dedicated, professional and easy to get along with. We were able to see our first photo on Joe’s instagram and thought it looks stunning. Pretty much right after booking our venue, my husband and I went through their list of recommended photographers because we knew that having amazing photographs from our wedding was a high priority for us. As we reviewed all of the photographers’ websites, Joe emerged as the clear frontrunner because of how beautifully he leverages natural light in his work and how nicely he captures genuine emotions. Meeting him on a video call further reinforced that he was a great fit for us because he is down-to-earth and has a great sense of humor but also takes the quality of his work very seriously. Joe ended up doing both our engagement photographs and our day-of wedding photography. He has a very well-organized process for gathering information about couples’ styles and the types of photographs that they want leading up to the wedding through distributing periodic and detailed online forms, which made communicating everything to him super easy for us. Joe also set aside some time to grab a drink with us before our engagement photographs and get to know us, which was an excellent idea and helped further refine his understanding of relationship dynamic, which we feel really contributed to the quality of our photos. We don’t have formal photographs taken of us very often and knowing that that is the case with most people who get engaged and married, he was also awesome at making us feel comfortable and providing clear and helpful instructions to us about how we should stand, pose, and interact to get the best shots. On the day of our engagement pictures, his commitment to getting the lighting perfect and varying it for different settings was also seriously impressive– we moved around quite a bit and the variety of the resulting work product was lovely. On the day of our wedding, it was raining on and off and Joe was super flexible and patient with the way in which the circumstances threw our original schedule off. In the end, we got a bunch of stunning rain-free photos and also got a few bonus artsy ones that featured a bit of rain, which we loved. The wedding party echoed our opinion that Joe was wonderful to work with and made everyone feel so comfortable, which contributed to the overall positive vibe of the day. The pictures that Joe delivered from our wedding were the perfect balance of traditional group portraits, shots of the decor and details that we valued capturing after having spent so much time wedding planning, and a lot of great candids. He captured my desired aesthetic of a little bit of glamour, romance, and tradition and a lot of fun in the most gorgeous way. Long story short, hiring Joe was a no-brainer for us and a choice that we would make again and again if we could do things all over! :)

Joe not only captured our wedding day with impeccable talent, his work actually tells our story as a couple.

He made us feel comfortable from the very beginning and took the time upfront to get to know who we are as individuals and as a couple, as well as our expectations for our photos. He was patient when we didn’t know where to put our hands and taught us how not to be super awkward. He even made it fun to be all dressed up and taking photos while sweating bullets on a typical North Carolina summer day.

As the mother of the bride and an amateur photographer, the photos were the most important element of my daughter’s wedding for me. We looked at several photographer portfolios online and it was quickly clear that Joe was the photographer we wanted. His ability to utilize natural elements to capture stunning images and his documentary photojournalistic approach truly capture the “spirit and emotion of your wedding day” just as he describes in his philosophy statement. You see not just the people who attended, but their personalities as well. Every time I look through the photos from the day, I am immediately transported back to the excitement and emotion that I felt. Our wedding was outdoor on a mountain and it was WET and WINDY! Joe found ways to make all the pics clear and beautiful! He scouted out locations for weather and took AMAZING pics! During the ceremony he climbed all over that mountain to create beautiful photos. He clearly understands light, color, and perspective. In his photos I feel beautiful and our venue appears stunning! I could post so many pics, but it would be unfair to Joe!

Not only were the photos unbelievable, (making it hard to choose just one for the portrait), but Joe was also a really awesome coach, which was something I really felt I needed. He’s very trustworthy, professional, and funny making anyone feel at ease with being in the spotlight. Not to mention Joe was extremely accommodating when it came to printing and delivering the portrait (we were on a tight timeline, and he went above and beyond to make sure my portrait was delivered by when I needed it). You won’t go wrong hiring Joe. My only regret is that I didn’t hire him for our wedding as well.

He exceeded our expectations in every way. He came out to our wedding venue a week early and scouted some amazing shooting locations that were definitely off the beaten path. The day of, he was respectful of every wish and need I had during our photo sessions. Our photos were ready in 4 weeks and when we ordered a large portrait to hang in our home, he drove from Raleigh to Greensboro to hand deliver it. My wife fell in love with the photography from one of Joe’s other weddings at our venue and booked him right away — it was literally the first thing she did. We didn’t do engagement pictures, so we didn’t actually meet him until about a month before the wedding, but he immediately assured us both that he knew what he was doing and the day would go great. As the previous reviews have already said, Joe has an incredible eye for taking amazing photos! He was able to capture the raw emotion throughout the entire wedding. In fact, he had captured sentimental moments I had forgotten even happened! For example, after we said our vows and were walking out of the chapel, we both looked down at my husband’s ring and shared a moment where we thought, wow, we’re finally married! I completely forgot we had even done that, but Joe captured it perfectly. Every photo brings you back to that exact point in time. I read that in the reviews but didn’t fully understand it until I saw my own photos. I love looking through them!

Joe is so charming and talented! Just let him work his magic and you’ll definitely fall in love with everything he gives you. It was wonderful to be able to be so hands off, and know that the end product would be everything we hoped for and more.

And as a side note, if you’re getting married at Duke, I don’t think any other photographer (or anyone period) knows Duke Gardens as well as Joe. I definitely recommend working with Joe for your wedding photography needs!

“No one has wedding pictures like this! These are incredible!” We were so fortunate to stumble across Joe online. My fiancee and I were instantly smitten with his aesthetic. If there was one thing we knew we didn’t want on our wedding day, it was cheesy, posed photos. I’m happy to say we got nothing of the sort. My husband and I fell in love with Joe Payne’s documentary style photographs on a photojournalist site. We were enamored with how he perfectly captured expressions and emotions in his pieces, as we were not fond of the “posed” photos that other wedding photographers so frequently exhibit.

During our wedding day, Joe Payne floated about in the background, snapping photos as the day progressed–it was so awesome to see him contorting himself to capture unique angles or dropping on to the floor to get a certain perspective. My husband and I aren’t used to being the center of attention for photos, which made for some hilarious moments as Joe would instruct us to interact around our venue. Joe made us feel super comfortable in front of the lens and we loved making him laugh (my husband and I are super silly people). He truly is a diamond in the rough.

Joe is AMAZING!!!! He was everything I ever could have asked for in a photographer and then some! I saw his pictures online and fell in love with them. I called him to feel him out and I remember at the end of our conversation I knew without a doubt that he was the photograph I wanted. He is not only personable and knowledgeable but he sticks to his values which I really appreciated. During our first conversation conversation, I mentioned how I really wanted to try to get a couple sunset pictures if we could and he found out what time the sun would set on my wedding day and what time would be best to try to take some sunset pictures. We recently were married at the Angus Barn Pavilions in Raleigh and after receiving our wedding photos, we are ecstatic that we chose Joe Payne as our wedding photographer. Joe Payne truly captures the emotions of your wedding and creates beautiful photos. Moreover, his documentary style allows you to relax while he takes photos, which was very important to us. First, we had a rainy day for our engagement session but Joe managed to keep a positive attitude and survive the rain with us. That showed us how dedicated he is to pleasing the couple and our crazy schedule at the time. On our wedding day, Joe showed up several hours before the wedding. This was really impressive to us that he would arrive any time we wanted and there was no extra fee. I had spoken to many photographers who would be present for a maximum amount of time only without having to pay extra. He was present while I was getting ready with my bridesmaids but also blended in so we could just relax. The wedding photos were similar. He very efficiently took our posed photos so that we could enjoy our wedding day. Our friends and family really enjoyed the photos that captured the emotions of the moment. I feel like we have a wide variety of photos including posed shots, candid shots (with some smiles and some tears), action shots (including many dance floor shots very popular amongst our friends) and even some panoramic including across the lake at the angus barn shots! One of my favorite photos is when he captured my husband and me laughing during our vows. We only laughed for a few seconds but now we have photo of that perfect moment forever. Joe Payne was the very first vendor my husband and I selected for our wedding and engagement photography. We found him after I saw the breath-taking wedding photos from a recently wed friend on Facebook. After stalking, I mean admiring her photos, I contacted her about her photographer and she gave a glowing review. Right away, we got in touch with Joe and were immediately impressed by his creative vision, responsiveness, and endearing British accent.

We had the pleasure of working with Joe for three events — our engagement shoot, rehearsal brunch, and of course, our wedding. Joe went above and beyond to exceed our expectations every time! Take our engagement shoot, as an example. My husband and I knew we wanted to take pictures at Duke University, our alma mater — but that was where our vision ended. Luckily, Joe helped us find unique and beautiful locations across the campus and Sarah P Duke Gardens, suggested poses, and overall helped two camera-shy people feel super comfortable. We didn’t have to think about a thing during our shoot besides having fun.

Joe is a great photographer…his work really does speak for itself. One thing that’s not as apparent from his photographs is his awesome attitude. Joe is so patient and thoughtful. This was key for photographing our large wedding with two large sets of families. Despite all the craziness that comes with a 200 person wedding, Joe made sure to capture all the special moments with all of our special people. It was even Joe’s idea to whisk my husband and I to a park near our venue to get some really beautiful pictures of us in an intimate setting — some of my favorite pictures of the day.

When we got our edited photos back after only a few short weeks, it felt like Christmas! As we viewed our pictures, we smiled, laughed, cried, and cheered. He traveled with my family and spent nearly a week with us, photographing everything from a family swim with dolphins, to the rehearsal dinner, wedding events, and a day-after hike in wedding attire to a waterfall. Joe was professional and fun. He took time to scope out potential shoot locations and was willing to get wet and dirty to get the best shot. We were extremely impressed with the way he was friendly and yet surprisingly invisible– he is a magician at finding just the right nook, cranny, tree, pier, angle, boulder, or hill from which to shoot. And since he’s so good at coordinating with the resort staff, (including videographers) we could enjoy the wedding, stress-free. But the real amazement came when we received our photos. We were in awe! Every single image is phenomenal. Joe captured the expressions and emotions that we always want to remember. He photographed the quiet, intimate moments spent with our families perfectly. He captured the fun, festive time after the wedding with the same ease. Joe did our engagement and wedding photos and he went above and beyond to make everything perfect. Not only is Joe a truly great person to work with but his photos are amazing! Joe was with me the entire day of our wedding from 9am to 11pm. He even came down the day before to check out where the reception would be and also took the time to take all the detail pictures of my dress, the rings, my shoes, garter, etc. The day of the wedding Joe was so easy going and completely worked with us on our schedule. I couldn’t ask for a better photographer for our wedding day and engagement session. As soon as I saw his work I knew he was the photographer for us! I contacted him immediately to meet. We decided to do the engagement photo session, so glad we did!! Our pictures are EPIC! Everyone on social media went wild for our engagement pictures at the cotton fields. Every time my mom looks at the photos from my wedding, she repeats that Joe is such an artist, which is the perfect way to describe our experience with him. The photos from our engagement shoot, my bridal portraits, and our wedding are absolutely phenomenal. While my husband is very comfortable having pictures taken, I am a complete camera-phobe, but you’d have no idea from the beautiful shots that Joe captured! In addition, he was fabulously personable and patient with my family (very important!). While we did run into a couple snafus with scheduling, Joe went really out of his way to make it up to us. It’s really our great pleasure to have Joe as our wedding photographer. We were very impressed by his professionalism, efficiency, humor, and most of all, amazing photos! He has the great ability to catch the important moments without letting you realize he exists. On the wedding day, Joe really devoted the whole day into this, totally unlimited. He even came earlier than the time we asked him to do, in order to catch every tiny moments. Joe gave all the photos to us in a very timely manner. They are all gorgeous. You can tell he really put a lot of efforts into digital editing – editing each photo individually based on the subject, light, atmosphere, etc, while many other photographers only use one or two pre-settings for all the photos. We were introduced to Joe Payne through the Duke Chapel suggested wedding photographer list. He came highly recommended from the wedding chapel coordinator and we are so happy with our decision to have Joe do our wedding photography. Not only was Joe a joy to be around on our wedding day, His photos completely captured our feelings and memories of the day in a fantastic way. Prior to our wedding Joe was very accessible for meetings and discussion of our plan for our wedding day. We even had a Skype meeting as we are not local to Raleigh. He offered suggestions on an approach to photos for Duke chapel’s very strict time schedule and were able to get all the photos we wanted at the chapel in the time we had. After our ceremony we visited Doris Duke Gardens for photos of our bridal party and just us. The photo session was split in a way that our bridal party was able to head back to freshen up before the reception while my husband and I had a private shoot with Joe. We didn’t know until it happened how important this time was to be alone and have fun taking photos with Joe without the rest of the bridal party. He was very easy to take direction from and captured the beauty of the garden and us in a very natural and comfortable way. He heard our requests prior to the wedding day and got all the photos we requested and blew us away with how they came out. At our reception Joe found very interesting and beautiful ways to capture our guests enjoying the reception and highlighted the beauty and uniqueness of the Nasher in each photo. Joe blended in with our guests at the reception and captured many great shots. Joe has great vision and knows what shots will be amazing and they were all amazing. He frames photos beautifully in the architecture of each space and the light quality was amazing every time. We couldn’t have been happier with his work and talent. Joe also sent us our photos very quickly after our event and had a good balance of black and white and color photos. and as we know – THAT is the most important thing! As father of the bride, and a photographer (hack), I enjoyed observing the wedding photographer selection process, occasionally when asked, giving input. It’s quite interesting – seeing what makes a bride’s preference. I also enjoyed watching Joe work at the wedding. He was professional throughout – and clearly knew what he needed to have to complete the assignment. The bride had very few “must haves,” and wanted to give as much creative freedom as possible. Joe made the most of the opportunity. Not too long after the wedding, came the teasers for Facebook. That created a nice buzz, and lots of positive anticipation. When the entire shot selection rolled out, there were lots of positive comments, oohs and ahhhs.. Some nice captures, as well as some edgy compositions that reflected the couples personalities quite well. Expectations were high in advance of the wedding – and Joe delivered! My husband and I are both a bit camera shy and he made us feel instantly comfortable. We got a great feel of how he worked before the day during our engagement shoot. Because of that, we felt comfortable with what we should be expecting on the wedding day and had a relationship with him beforehand.

A good photographer can capture emotions and translate them into an image. ‘It’s wonderful to work with a “stress-free” photographer. He can maximize time, make you comfortable and guide you so you get the exactly results that you are looking for. The photography was probably one of the parts of our wedding that my fiancé and I worried about the most, since neither of us likes having our picture taken. But as soon as I started talking to Joe and saw some of his work, I started feeling a lot better about the whole thing. It was a pleasure working with him for almost an entire year during the planning process, and I enjoyed getting to know him along the way, too! He seemed to be able to read my mind b/c he was able to give me all of the pictures I wanted without having to ask. He shot my engagement pictures with my fiance, my bridal portraits and was with us for 8 hours on the wedding day…. and unless he was taking formal pictures of us at the wedding, I rarely noticed he was around. They say that your wedding day is perhaps the one day in your life when it is all about you. Joe Payne really made us feel like our day was indeed all about us. After our initial meeting with Joe, we did an engagement photo shoot. We walked around the Duke Gardens (where our reception was held) and Joe had us just talk to each other and relax. Neither of us is particularly fond of posed photos and while you may have to move a little more into the light from time to time, Joe works very hard to make everything as natural and relaxing as possible. My husband and I knew we had found our soul mates when we found each other. Finding Joe was the next best thing. Not only did he have great pictures in his portfolio but from the first time Mark and I sat down with Joe at Hibernian, we knew his personality was the best fit for us! He did’t make us do cheesy stuff, which we both hate, and the session flew by. Joe has a remarkable talent for capturing people in the moment. All of our pictures showed us (just better looking versions), being ourselves, in the moment, and neither of us have ever taken that many good photos in our life! (neither of us are photogenic) After I saw what Joe was capable of doing, with little to no effort on our part, I knew that we could relax about the wedding day. It was so nice to finally see the moments from our wedding day that Joe had captured. He seemed to be everywhere but completely unnoticed, capturing literally-picture perfect moments! Besides his amazing ability to take once in a life time pictures, he is very efficient and had the best prices in town. Our album was ready for us the day before we returned from our honeymoon. He has a great personality and is fun to be around. We wanted someone who could really tell the story of our wedding in pictures since we were not hiring a videographer and he did just that! Every picture he took was not only beautiful, but captured the joy of the day. As a side note, personally I am a terrible subject for pictures because everytime I’m in front of the camera I feel awkward, so I was amazed seeing pictures of myself that made me look natural. He did a great job of making everyone feel comfortable and he honored my Mom’s only request that he not stand at the very front of the ceremony snapping pictures left and right which is a problem we had at my sister’s wedding. Her photographers took good pictures but had no concern interrupting the ceremony. All in all Joe was very professional and we could not be happier with our pictures.

The one aspect of my wedding I was real keen on was the photography. Since most of my family lived abroad and could not make it for the wedding, this part was crucial. I happened to see some of Joe’s pictures online and loved them. Meeting him and having him photograph our wedding was the best thing ever…I personally hate photographs and think that I look quite terrible in most of them (I know there are quite a few girls out there in my shoes), but Joe is simply a magician. We found Joe on the internet through the Knot website and were excited that his photos really told the story of the subjects he covered. As soon as we spoke with him we knew the match was perfect. My family had a mix of family members who spoke English and Spanish and Joe knew both very well and was able to communicate with my family and make everyone comfortable. The pictures were amazing and it was incredible he did the whole event by himself. Each picture does tell its own story of the event and brings us so many good memories. He really captured the beauty of our location at Lake Lure NC (and my bride as well !!). Having a good photographer for our wedding was one of my top priorities but we had a very limited budget. Finding Joe was like striking gold! I found him online just by chance and my husband and I couldn’t be happier with our whole experience with Joe. He went above and beyond what we ever expected and was so much fun to work with. Joe did a great job on everything from the group shots to the candids. (And if you’ve seen the size of my family you’ll understand it can be a challenge.) There is such a variety in the pictures and he was able to capture the colors of fall and sunset brilliantly.

You were extremely flexible with the date and time of our photo session. I loved how patient you were with the boys and just used whatever you could get from them to get great pictures. The quality of the photos are amazing. In fact, my mom took the cds to Walmart to print some out, and they would not give her the photos because they were clearly “professional” photos and they needed a copyright release.
