raleigh durham wedding photographer – the king’s daughters inn

Durham Wedding Photographer

I was honoured to be asked recently by the King’s Daughters Inn to provide the photograph for their artwork in this year’s Southern Bride and Groom magazine.

For those of you that don’t know it, the KDI is a beautiful boutique Bed & Breakfast located by the Duke University campus in Durham, NC. It was originally built in the 1920’s, but fully refurbished in 2009. It’s a place I really enjoy shooting in given its character and abundance of natural light and I can wholeheartedly recommend it for people looking for a more intimate venue for their wedding and other events.

I’m looking forward to working with Samantha and the team there again in 2012. Thanks again guys!

For the blog post corresponding to the shoot the ad was taken from, please check out Candis & Terrell’s wedding here.

duke gardens wedding photography – joyce & ross
Joyce & Ross were married this past weekend, so I'm now able to show some images from our pre-wedding shoot at Duke Gardens a fortnight or so ago. As you'll see, we had a pretty extreme shoot in terms of weather. I think we experienced pretty much all four seasons in the space of a couple of hours, but Joyce and Ross were on great form and didn't let the rain get in the way of their smiles. A good time was had by all, especially me! Here are a few of my faves from the shoot...

That may sound pretty obvious, but as someone who has been hired to document a very important day, the temptation a lot of the time is to just take pictures and more pictures to make sure you are covering every single moment possible. You have to make a conscious effort to slow down and take in your surroundings whilst you're working away. This week's image is a case in point about how it can really be rewarding to take a moment to look around and take a few ca ...

raleigh wedding photographer – image of the week: no. 5
Good light: it's the holy grail for us photographers, so when I saw this red brick warehouse lit up in the orange glow of the setting sun at last Saturday's wedding in Durham, I immediately suggested to the happy couple that we make the short walk over to take some pictures before the start of their reception. We got there, I showed them where to stand and left them to themselves to interact naturally. The result was this image of the couple and the spontaneous kiss of the groom on his bride's shoulder. You can't pose this kind of image and make it look natural, so the trick is to just find the light, have some fun and let the couple take ...
