Engagements

Well, spring seemed to take an age to show up properly, but a couple of weekends back, we were treated to a really beautiful Saturday evening. As luck would have it, I had a UNC engagement photography session set up for that evening, so I loaded up and headed out to Chapel Hill to meet up with Eleanna and Michael. After a couple of beers at Top of the Hill to relax and get to know each other a little more, we went for a walk around the UNC campus and made some images. We shot a mixture of film (Fuji 400 processed by Richard Photo Lab) as well as digital, and the beautiful spring colours really popped in the evening light. All digital images were processed in my Lightroom presets to get the exact match with Fuji film. Hopefully, you’ll be hard pushed to know which photos are analogue and which are digital. I know I am!

Eleanna and Michael have a great sense of humour and a ton of chemistry, which really show up in the photos. I’m really looking forward to shooting their wedding this autumn. Thanks for a great evening, guys!

Hi everyone, At the end of March, I got together with Cassie and John for a walk around downtown Raleigh for their engagement photography session. We met up at The Oxford, had a couple of drinks and headed out into the city to find the light as the sun was setting. As always, I tried to do things a little differently from my previous shoots in the area so we mixed things up a bit by shooting solely with prime lenses. Invariably, the fixed focal length forces you to see things differently and this case was no exception. It makes you think a bit more about your composition, which means more work, but that's definitely a good thing. A goo ...

A week or so ago, I spent a couple of hours on a Saturday evening hanging out with Lisa and Mark in downtown Raleigh for their engagement session. We had a couple of drinks in The Oxford (I need to keep it real and English) to catch up and loosen up a little before heading out for a walk around Fayetteville Street. It really is a great area with a lot of unique nooks and crannies to take pictures in, as well as the lovely State Capitol building, which provided the backdrop to some of our images. After a pretty crappy day of rain and thunder, we were treated to a lovely spring evening of sunshine. That, combined with Lisa and Mark's chemis ...

Shooting at golden hour is photographer nirvana. Most of the time, that means shooting at sunset, especially in the summer months when sunrise is so early in the morning. Shooting at sunrise in June, though, you get the benefit of cooler temperatures than in the afternoon and the fact most people are still in bed, so places that would otherwise be teeming with people are pretty much empty. So it was great to be able to meet up with Annie & Yuriy early in the morning a week or so back to shoot around Duke Chapel and Sarah P. Duke Gardens, where they will be getting married in a few short months. As you can see below, we pretty much had bot ...
