raleigh wedding photography – kate & john’s backyard wedding

Raleigh Wedding Photojournalism

Backyard weddings are always great fun to photograph. None more so than Kate & John’s nuptials at their new home in north Raleigh. With the sun shining and the autumn foliage on full display, the house and grounds provided a beautiful backdrop for the day. And so it was that, surrounded by their closest friends and family, Kate & John got ready, got married and partied together under their own roof, though we did also manage to get up on top of it for some cool pictures of the couple and their spectacularly lit garden. It was a fabulous day!

Here are a few of my picks of the pics from their day. Happy Holidays, everyone!!

For this week's image, I wanted to go with something completely different to last time and I don't think you can get much different than this! I talk a lot about favouring a photojournalistic approach to what I do, but I really do enjoy the portraiture associated with shooting the bride and groom together on their special day too. Often, the biggest hurdle to getting this right is the sheer lack of time for the couple to relax and get away from everyone else, but if planned properly, the results can be really spectacular. On this occasion, the bride had planned a four-hour window between the end of the wedding ceremony and the start of the re ...

This week's photograph is taken from a wedding I did last year at the Washington Duke Inn and Golf Club in Durham, NC. It was taken in the bride's hotel room while she was having the final touches of her make-up applied. As I have mentioned in earlier posts, I very much enjoy this part of the day as it is invariably a moment of great anticipation for the bride and her cortège. There's normally pretty heady mixture of happiness and laughter in the air, but there are a lot of other feelings running their course too: expectation, trepidation and, often, a few butterflies. With such a wealth of emotions on show, it's a great time to take some pre ...
