Duke Chapel Weddings

Happy New Year, everyone! Hope you all had a good holiday season and got some quality R&R with your loved ones. Cristel, the kids, and I spent Christmas and New Year with our family down in Panama. We had a great time catching up with everyone and enjoyed our time in the sun by taking a trip to the amazing San Blas islands and lounging by the hotel pool drinking large quantities of Panamanian rum. Fun times!

So, it was a bit of a proverbial ice cube down the back when I flew back into RDU for Laura & Cadman’s Duke Chapel wedding, only to learn we were expecting up to 8″ of snow that day. Yowzers!

Luckily, everything on the big day ran relatively smoothly and we were able to get some fabulous pictures; Duke Chapel was still decked out in its beautiful Christmas decorations and everything looked so picturesque in the snow. Despite the ice, we even managed to make it outside for some pictures at the Washington Duke Inn as the sun set. It was a pretty amazing sight! Even still, with all the delays and the slippery conditions in the arcades at Duke Chapel, we didn’t get quite as many photos as I would have normally delivered, so we set up a post-wedding shoot in order to get some more bridal and couple pictures. It was only five days after the wedding, but the temperature the day we reconvened was a balmy 70ºF (about 21ºC for my people outside the USA). Quite a difference, which allowed us plenty of time to take some photos.

Below are a few of my fave pics from both days. Big thanks to Laura & Cadman for having me along for such a fab experience. Best of luck for a long and happy marriage, guys!

It was a great privilege for me to recently be one of the wedding photographers in Raleigh asked to provide a few of my photos for Duke Chapel's new wedding website. Given that there are just twelve wedding photographs total in the set, to have two of my images selected and be featured amongst some of the area's most established photographers was a real honour. With three more weddings booked at Duke already this year, I'm looking forward to working in what is one of my favourite venues again soon! Watch this space!!

Wedding Ceremony: Duke Chapel, Durham, NC Wedding Reception: The Sarah P. Duke Gardens, Durham, NC Cake: Lynn's Traditions, Raleigh, NC DJ and Videographer: Damien Maas, Durham NC Assistant Photographer: Rebecca Ferguson, Durham, NC The first time I ever visited Durham back in 2007, I was lucky enough to visit Duke Chapel and was totally spellbound by its beautiful gothic architecture. And so it was, when we moved to the area in late 2010, that I made it my goal to shoot a wedding there as soon as possible. Almost exactly one year to the day later, I was contacted by Jacquie and was extremely pleased when we met up and she told ...

duke chapel & rickhouse weddings – mary pat & jon
Mary Pat & Jonathan's wedding was such great fun to shoot. Everything from shooting the girls getting ready at The Durham Hotel right through to the reception at The Rickhouse was so full of joy and laughter, I had a smile on my face all day! After the first-look and ceremony at the always-lovely Duke Chapel, Mary Pat & Jonathan joined me on a quick shoot around downtown Durham. From there, we headed over to the reception where DJ Steve Stowe got the party started in style. As you'll see, everyone listed above really came together to make it a really beautiful day; my sincerest thanks to them all! A special thank you, of course, to ...
