oaks at salem wedding photography – kim & jeff

Wedding Photography

When Kim originally contacted me in May last year, she hadn’t even booked her venue yet, so it was clear photography was a pretty big priority for her. As soon as we spoke, I knew we were on the same wavelength and I was so pleased when she booked me pretty much straight away. Happily, she did select a beautiful venue pretty quickly thereafter! And so it was that a fortnight ago, I took the arduous 6-minute drive from my house to The Oaks at Salem to shoot Kim & Jeff’s wedding a couple of weeks ago.

We were forecast storms, and it did rain a little in the morning, but I always say to wait and see what happens on the day and we couldn’t have asked for better weather! It was a gorgeous early-May day, not too hot and with beautiful sunlight that led to some pretty dramatic images.

Big thanks to the April and Veni at The Oaks for looking after Dajuan and me so well. As well as all the other vendors listed below.

And without further ado, here are my picks of the pics…

Three distinct cultures came together last month at Pascale and Tim's Umstead wedding: with Lebanese and Japanese elements intertwined with a traditional American wedding there were so many beautiful moments and pretty details to take in. From the getting ready with the always-amazing Stephanie at The MakeUp Culture, to the first look on the boardwalk, the ceremony overlooking the lake, through to the reception with its origami details, traditional Lebanese drum band, confetti-enhanced cake-cutting and plenty of dancing courtesy of the talented DJ Rang, it was a great day to be a wedding photographer. Everything was put together brilliantl ...

It's been an incredibly busy summer so far, so the "Shot of the Week" has unfortunately become more like "Shot of the Month"! I hope to get things back on track here soon, so please bear with me as I get caught up. This week's shot came from a recent wedding that I covered with a reception at the North Carolina State University Club here in downtown Raleigh. In looking through the images from the wedding, this one really stood out to me for its fun content and I think it brings something different for this series. After the cake is cut and the bouquet is tossed, shooting the reception can sometimes get a bit challenging in terms of find ...

This is an image that just makes me smile. Capturing moments between loved ones is something I really enjoy doing. I'm not sure if it's because my wife and I live so far away from our families and loved ones back home in England and Panama and we miss them, or if it's just the old romantic in me, but I love watching people interact and have fun together. It's one of the reasons I love what I do. In this case, we can see the bride's mum and granddad sharing a dance and a laugh later on in the reception. No real mystery in how the shot was put together, except by shooting in manual mode and compensating for the darker environment using avail ...
