oaks at salem wedding photography – kim & jeff

Wedding Photography

When Kim originally contacted me in May last year, she hadn’t even booked her venue yet, so it was clear photography was a pretty big priority for her. As soon as we spoke, I knew we were on the same wavelength and I was so pleased when she booked me pretty much straight away. Happily, she did select a beautiful venue pretty quickly thereafter! And so it was that a fortnight ago, I took the arduous 6-minute drive from my house to The Oaks at Salem to shoot Kim & Jeff’s wedding a couple of weeks ago.

We were forecast storms, and it did rain a little in the morning, but I always say to wait and see what happens on the day and we couldn’t have asked for better weather! It was a gorgeous early-May day, not too hot and with beautiful sunlight that led to some pretty dramatic images.

Big thanks to the April and Veni at The Oaks for looking after Dajuan and me so well. As well as all the other vendors listed below.

And without further ado, here are my picks of the pics…

Maria and Andrew's St. Catherine of Siena & The Sutherland wedding was definitely a highlight of my year so far. As wedding photographers, we can only hope for three things: great subjects, great locations and great light - all three were available in abundance on this beautiful day. Throughout the day, it was a joy to just stand back and watch Maria and Andrew interact together and just photograph them as they are. They are so obviously besotted with each other and there were so many tender moments between the two of them, there was really very little direction needed from me for the portrait side of things and we ended up with so man ...

justin and meredith get hitched
A few weeks back, I mentioned meeting some very close friends of ours, Brad and Jennie, at a monthly gathering of friends who consume lots of raw fish, rice sake and plum wine. On Saturday, Cristel, Charlotte and I attended the wedding of two more "Sushi Club" friends, Justin and Meredith, who tied the knot up the road in Fishers. The official photographer for the day was the marvelously talented Angela Talley, but, as you can guess, I couldn't get through the day without taking some pictures of my own, especially given that is was the first time in ages the original Sushi Club members got together AND Charlotte was wearing a pretty cute froc ...

raleigh wedding photographer – image of the week: no. 3
This week's photo is a favourite of mine from a wedding I shot last October in Cincinnati. This was a fun day for me to shoot as the bride is an old friend of mine from when I first moved to the USA from the UK back in 1999. The reception was held in a marquee in the back garden of her parents' gorgeous house overlooking the Ohio valley and that is where this shot of their first dance was taken. I think it's pretty obvious why I like it: this was the split second when the bride made eye contact with me and the expression in her eyes is just priceless. You can't see her the whole of her face, but you don't need to; she just looks so incredibly ...
