duke gardens weddings – annie & yuriy

Duke Gardens Weddings

Annie & Yuriy were married last month in the pergola at one of my favourite places to shoot: Duke Gardens. It was a lovely Saturday in early September and, for me as a Duke Gardens wedding photographer as well as all the guests in their formal attire, the weather was perfect for an outdoor ceremony. Annie & Yuriy’s family hail from China and Ukraine respectively, so there was a traditional element to this wedding that brought in some of the customs from both cultures. Annie was also really interested in dedicating a good amount of the day to portraits both before and after the ceremony, so we got the opportunity to walk around the gardens with the bridal party before the ceremony before spending some one-on-one time with the couple as the sun went down.

From there, it was over to the WaDuke for the reception, which was expertly DJ’d by DJ Ryan Levin with DJ Rang. Annie & Yuriy had also worked hard on a beautifully choreographed first dance that featured both a waltz and a tango and wowed everyone in the room. You might remember the photo of the impromptu rehearsal we made in the arcades at Duke Chapel during their engagement shoot back in the summer. Well, they certainly didn’t disappoint; it was absolutely amazing!

With so many great images, it was tough narrowing things down for the blog, but here are just a few of my faves from the big day. Big congrats to Annie & Yuriy! I wish you guys all the very best for a long and happy marriage!

Summer is upon us and I've just got back from my home country of England where I spent a fortnight travelling around the country catching up with friends and family. So now it's time to catch up on work and for me to share a recent wedding that I shot at Duke Gardens for the fabulous Lauren & Ricky. As you can see, we were blessed with wonderful weather for their outdoor ceremony and reception and the day went by in a total blur. Luckily, the photos do a great job of telling the story of the day, which it's what it's all about after all. A huge shout-out to the great people who came together to make it such a fabulous day: Ceremony ...

A gorgeous day in a beautiful location with great people. That pretty much sums up the vibe of Jordan and Zeke's wedding at Duke Gardens earlier this month. Readers of the blog will recognise Jordan from her bridal photographs that I shot a few days before the wedding. She made such an elegant bride, and I think you'll agree that her groom, Zeke, cut a pretty dapper figure too. Congrats to them both and best wishes for the future! Big thanks to all the great people that collaborated to make the day such a success: Ceremony & Reception: Sarah P Duke Gardens, Durham, NC | Event Coordination: Grace Beason, Grace Leisure Events, Durham, ...

They say rain on your wedding day is good luck, which is great news for Katherine & Andy given that we dodged thunder storms pretty much all day for their outdoor Duke Gardens wedding ceremony a few weeks ago. Everything was looking fine in the morning, but the grey skies rolled in right as we got to the gardens and pretty much all our plans for the first look and portraits before the ceremony had to be pushed back by about an hour. Luckily, the skies eventually cleared and we were able to get outside and make some beautiful images. I love bright, sunny days, but, as en Englishman, I have a very soft spot for rainy days too!  The grey ...
