downtown durham engagement photography – melanie & anthony

Engagements

Rain Stops Play – Well, actually it was the catalyst for a really fun (and different) engagement shoot with Melanie and Anthony. We met up at West End Wine Bar in Durham and were on our way out when the heavens opened and a summer rainstorm was suddenly unleashed upon us. It was a total downpour, so we headed back inside. The original plan was to wait it out, but as the rain never looked like letting up, we switched gears and started using the environment we were in for some portraits. Melanie and Anthony had originally wanted a vintage Hollywood vibe for their engagement session anyway, so we walked to some of the cool spots in downtown Durham – basically a mini pub crawl ;) – and used the available light to make some interesting images and a storyline. As you can see, they dressed the part and absolutely KILLED it.

Here are just some of my faves from the session. Some of the best fun I’ve had in ages. Thanks guys!!

duke chapel engagement session – naomi & matt
A couple of weekends back, I met up with Naomi and Matt for an early morning cup of coffee and an engagement session in the grounds around Duke Chapel. The sun shone, the birds sang and good times were had by all involved. Seriously, we had a laugh and made the most of the gorgeous light to get some great shots. It was great fun! Unfortunately, I was booked for Naomi and Matt's wedding, so I won't be with them for their big day in September. I was pleased we got the time to hang out and make pictures together though. Love and best wishes to them both as they start their new journey together. Here are a few fave photographs from our Duke ...

raleigh wedding photographer – monica and mark’s raleigh engagement shoot
When I first spoke with Monica back in early February, one of the first things we chatted about was the fact that she wanted to do an engagement photo shoot, but that she thought her fiancé Mark wasn't too keen on the idea. I knew exactly what she meant as the idea of 'staged' poses is enough to send a lot of people, myself included, running for the hills. As any of you that follow this blog will know, my wedding photographs really focus on a reportage style; telling the story of the day with minimal direction from me. Simply put, I believe the day is unique and it is my job to document it rather than try and make it into something it isn't b ...

wedding photographers in raleigh nc ~ engagement session for jessica and bo
With the season over for us Raleigh wedding photographers, I'm already looking forward to what 2013 has to offer! First up will be Jessica and Bo, whose Carolina Inn wedding I will be shooting in a few weeks. Their Chapel Hill engagement session took place one grey Sunday morning in November, where we met at the Carolina Inn, had a leisurely brunch at the Carolina Coffee Shop where we had a chat and got to know each other a little better, and then headed out to take pictures around the area. It was a fun-packed and eventful session where we laughed, cried and I got ambushed by a rather large and playful Irish red setter. What can I say? We ...
