abbi hits 18 months

Portraiture

Back when I got organised and officially kicked off “Joe Payne Photography”, I was really pleased to get an email from Ashley, whose daughter Abbi used to be in the same group at daycare as Charlotte. Abbi recently turned 18 months, so we spent an hour early on Sunday morning walking around Zionsville. It was probably the hottest day I have ever had to work in, but it was a gorgeous morning and Abbi did brilliantly despite the heat. I hope you like the pics!

I was first introduced to Chad Biggs and his team back in September 2014, after shooting co-founder and lead planner, Jessica's, wedding the previous month. Since then, I've had the pleasure of working with them on a number of weddings both at Melrose Knitting Mill and in other venues. To me, they've always been really great people to work with: totally on their game with regard to the planning and nailing all the little details, but they've also been really fun and friendly people to spend time with too, which is great given the pressures of working on such mentally demanding events as weddings. So it was great to get a call from Jessica ear ...

I've spoken before about the use of light and it is something I try to focus on with my work, especially during portrait sessions and the times of the day when we have some time to actually go out and "make some pictures". On the wedding day itself, however, time is normally a precious resource and it's not always easy to conjure up nice images out of thin air. There are many factors to work with: light, trying to work out how to make the most of the environment you are in, distractions from the wedding party itself, etc. This week's image is a good example of how just a little bit of legwork and thought can help find a great spot to work wit ...

Hi everyone, It's been a fun few days since we got back from vacation, but I have been itching to get out and shoot again. The crazy weather has forced a number of postponements, so I was really pleased that Wednesday's forecasted storms held off in order to be able to go and meet up with Zach and his fantastic Mum and Dad, Yvonne and Scott. We got some really nice shots outside in their lovely big garden as well as in and around the home. Zach was really chilled out the whole time and only resorted to hinting politely when he needed his nappy changed or another feed. I am on a roll with my newborns! Anyway, one of the things that struc ...
