sunday at the ima

Portraiture

One of the first people to contact me when I finally got round to getting this gig up and running ‘officially’ was Jenny; a friend of mine from my time working at First Advantage. Jenny is such a fun and carefree character to be with, that I was really looking forward to taking pics with her and her family. We had to put the shoot back a couple of weeks given the recent storms, but I couldn’t have asked for a better day to spend some time with them at the gardens of the IMA. Men and boys usually approach a photography session with all the enthusiasm of receiving a kick in the goolies, but Chris and the lads were on top form despite the heat and humidity. There was a fair amount of banter between us and I think it shows in the photos that we all had a bit of a laugh. It really was a great experience (for me at least!).

Anyway, this is the slideshow I put together for Jenny. She told me she cried when she first saw it. I’m not sure if that’s due to the photos or Kenny Chesney’s warbling, but hey. I’ll take what I can get. Enjoy!

Geek notes: Canon EOS 5D Mark II with 24-70 f/2.8 L USM and 50D with 70-200 f/4 L IS USM and 85 f/1.8 USM

Monday was a brilliant day for me as I got to follow up a really fun engagement shoot with a family session with my good friends Clay and Emily and their son Evan. The evening's events started off at Hap's Irish Pub, which was really apt as it was there that I first met up with Clay and Emily Bond almost 11 years ago. Clay and I used to work together and when I was shipped in from London with my old work friends Sean Grant (and his wife Jo) and Tracey McNabb, Clay and Emily were the people that set about making us feel welcome and essentially lining up entertainment for us on the weekends. I think one day that October, we watched a football m ...

I recently got the chance to go and spend a Sunday morning with these two cool little guys. We were originally slated for the Saturday, but the stormy weather put paid to that. The light was interesting as it was rather overcast but still kind of harsh at the same time. There was a cool, old white barn by Cassie and Andrew's house which I used as a big reflector with the backlit shots. It also provided some interesting texture with its peeling paint and rusty metallic outhouses. Anyway, here are the picks of the shoot. Geek info: Canon EOS 5D Mark II with Canon EF 50mm f/1.2 L USM and EF 24-70mm f/2.8 L USM lenses and Canon EOS 50D wit ...

Last Sunday, I took a trip over to my old stamping grounds in Cincinnati to hang out with some old friends in Ault Park. It was a perfect evening with some gorgeous light from the setting sun catching the blossom. All in all, great lighting, lovely scenery and cool subjects = a recipe for success.     PS - Happy Birthday Drew! 4 today!
