sunday at the ima

Portraiture

One of the first people to contact me when I finally got round to getting this gig up and running ‘officially’ was Jenny; a friend of mine from my time working at First Advantage. Jenny is such a fun and carefree character to be with, that I was really looking forward to taking pics with her and her family. We had to put the shoot back a couple of weeks given the recent storms, but I couldn’t have asked for a better day to spend some time with them at the gardens of the IMA. Men and boys usually approach a photography session with all the enthusiasm of receiving a kick in the goolies, but Chris and the lads were on top form despite the heat and humidity. There was a fair amount of banter between us and I think it shows in the photos that we all had a bit of a laugh. It really was a great experience (for me at least!).

Anyway, this is the slideshow I put together for Jenny. She told me she cried when she first saw it. I’m not sure if that’s due to the photos or Kenny Chesney’s warbling, but hey. I’ll take what I can get. Enjoy!

Geek notes: Canon EOS 5D Mark II with 24-70 f/2.8 L USM and 50D with 70-200 f/4 L IS USM and 85 f/1.8 USM

I was recently given the pleasure of being asked to do some corporate shots for Eric and the team at All Around Raleigh DJ. I'd worked with Eric earlier in the season at a wedding at Magnolia Manor, which he did a really fantastic job with, so I was really pleased to head over and do some portraits for him and his team for use on the website. We mixed up some shots inside and out for a couple of different vibes all using natural light from the setting sun. Anyone looking for a Raleigh Wedding DJ should head over to the All Around Raleigh DJ site and drop Eric a line. They really are a great crew to work with: fun, professional and classy. ...

Back when I got organised and officially kicked off "Joe Payne Photography", I was really pleased to get an email from Ashley, whose daughter Abbi used to be in the same group at daycare as Charlotte. Abbi recently turned 18 months, so we spent an hour early on Sunday morning walking around Zionsville. It was probably the hottest day I have ever had to work in, but it was a gorgeous morning and Abbi did brilliantly despite the heat. I hope you like the pics! Brad and Jennie are two of my best friends here in Indy. I met them about three years ago (wow, time flies!), on a night out with some of Lilly's Latino contingent on one of their monthly sushi club outings. Since then, not only have we consumed an ungodly amount of raw fish, beer and plum wine, we have also become great mates. Brad even let me come over and swear loudly at his telly a couple of years ago as I watched England pummeled into defeat by South Africa in the rugby World Cup final. That shows what a top bloke he is. Jennie, on the other hand, is one of those rare ladies that is really gorgeous to look at (Colts cheerleader material ...
