sunday at the ima

Portraiture

One of the first people to contact me when I finally got round to getting this gig up and running ‘officially’ was Jenny; a friend of mine from my time working at First Advantage. Jenny is such a fun and carefree character to be with, that I was really looking forward to taking pics with her and her family. We had to put the shoot back a couple of weeks given the recent storms, but I couldn’t have asked for a better day to spend some time with them at the gardens of the IMA. Men and boys usually approach a photography session with all the enthusiasm of receiving a kick in the goolies, but Chris and the lads were on top form despite the heat and humidity. There was a fair amount of banter between us and I think it shows in the photos that we all had a bit of a laugh. It really was a great experience (for me at least!).

Anyway, this is the slideshow I put together for Jenny. She told me she cried when she first saw it. I’m not sure if that’s due to the photos or Kenny Chesney’s warbling, but hey. I’ll take what I can get. Enjoy!

Geek notes: Canon EOS 5D Mark II with 24-70 f/2.8 L USM and 50D with 70-200 f/4 L IS USM and 85 f/1.8 USM

fun in the sun with lily and josie – raleigh wedding and portrait photographers
The final part of my triple-header of shoots last Sunday took me to my old stamping grounds in Cincinnati, OH. Ault Park to be precise. This place has a lot of great memories for me, including a certain office party almost 10 years ago where far too much alcohol was consumed and I ruined a perfectly good tuxedo. Anyway, if you'd told me back then I would be working as a photographer now, I would have probably told you (in a slurred English accent) you were slightly barking. But so it is, and so it was that I spent last Sunday evening dodging the storms and taking photographs of Lily and Josie and their mum and dad, Christine and Nick. The ...

I recently got the chance to go and spend a Sunday morning with these two cool little guys. We were originally slated for the Saturday, but the stormy weather put paid to that. The light was interesting as it was rather overcast but still kind of harsh at the same time. There was a cool, old white barn by Cassie and Andrew's house which I used as a big reflector with the backlit shots. It also provided some interesting texture with its peeling paint and rusty metallic outhouses. Anyway, here are the picks of the shoot. Geek info: Canon EOS 5D Mark II with Canon EF 50mm f/1.2 L USM and EF 24-70mm f/2.8 L USM lenses and Canon EOS 50D wit ...

maggie turns 1
On Friday last week, I met up with young Maggie and her parents, Terri and Adam for an early-morning shoot at the IMA. The first thing I saw when I looked into the back of the car, were two brilliant blue eyes shining back at me from the car seat. I think my words to Terri were: "Wow! we're going to have some fun with them!". And so we did. Maggie was a really great little baby to photograph: she smiled when asked to and looked at the camera pretty much on demand too. Mum and dad had come well prepared too, with plenty of props and clothes. The rocking chair in the pictures is a family heirloom going back at least three generations. The b ...
