Wedding Photography

Wedding and Reception: Magnolia Manor Plantation Bed & Breakfast, Warrenton, NC

Disc Jockey and Master of Ceremonies: All Around Raleigh DJ, Raleigh, NC

Balloon Décor: Twisted Entertainers, Asheboro, NC

Earlier this month, I was lucky enough to photograph Dayna and Daniel’s wedding at Magnolia Manor in Warrenton, North Carolina. Set in the North Carolina Piedmont countryside, and with a history stretching back to 1859, it is a truly fantastic location oozing with character and ambience.

From the moment I saw the house nestled in its 13 acres of green pasture and pecan groves, I knew I was in for a treat. Sheila and Larry, the owners, have done a great job renovating the house and their attention to detail was also evident with the planning of the entire wedding from florals through to the cake and, of course, accommodation.

With Plan A being an outdoor ceremony, the fact the weather was threatening thunderstorms all day kept us all on our toes. Thankfully, Larry did a fantastic job of keeping tabs on the radar before making the call to go ahead with the ceremony outside versus Plan B in the barn. Thanks to his planning, the thunderstorm hit right on cue when all the guests and the bridal party had processed into the reception venue. As soon as the intros were finished and the first dance started, the heavens opened!

Eric from All Around Raleigh DJ, did a fantastic job of providing music for the ceremony and then kicked the party off with some great tunes that kept the party rocking till well past closing time. The “Alice in Wonderland” themed balloons provided by Twisted Entertainers were a great touch and they made an entry onto the dance floor around 10:30, whereby the party kicked into another gear completely. A fun time was had by all indeed!

Lastly, a big thanks to Dayna and Daniel and all their friends for being such a brilliant group of people to work with. I wish you all the very best for the future and hope to see you again soon.

Anyway, here are a few of my faves from the day…

Appreciate it Elizabeth. I'm building a time machine in my spare time, so I'll pop by your old flat when I get back to 2002.

st. catherine of siena & the sutherland wedding – maria & andrew
Maria and Andrew's St. Catherine of Siena & The Sutherland wedding was definitely a highlight of my year so far. As wedding photographers, we can only hope for three things: great subjects, great locations and great light - all three were available in abundance on this beautiful day. Throughout the day, it was a joy to just stand back and watch Maria and Andrew interact together and just photograph them as they are. They are so obviously besotted with each other and there were so many tender moments between the two of them, there was really very little direction needed from me for the portrait side of things and we ended up with so man ...

river landing country club wedding – megan & chad
OK, so this River Landing Country Club wedding is going to be the final wedding to hit the blog in 2017, and, as far as I'm concerned, it's a great way to wrap up the year. Yes, it's a bit of a corker! Let's see: Fab bride and groom? Check! Awesome wedding party? Check!! Beautiful locations? Check!!! T-Rex first dance? CHECK!!! The list goes on... Megan and Chad were really great to work with. Megan is a photographer herself, so I was very flattered when she reached out to me to ask me to shoot her wedding. Given that she lives in VA, we pretty much planned everything via phone and email and hadn't actually met till the wedding day itse ...

raleigh wedding photographer – image of the week: no. 7 | cliff mautner bootcamp review
This week's image is a bit different to the norm as, instead of at a wedding, it was taken at Cliff Mautner's Lighting and Skillset Bootcamp, which I had the pleasure of attending this week. I have always admired Cliff's use of light and been impressed with his communication skills and down-to-earth approach to teaching. For those of you that don't know him, Cliff was voted one of the top 10 wedding photographers in the world by American Photo magazine and is a Nikon spokesperson and multi-award-winning all-round amazing guy. Bottom line, someone I was really looking forward to meeting and learning from. As you can probably tell, I place a ...
