durham wedding photographer – jill’s bridal portrait session

Bridal Session

On Saturday, I had the pleasure of photographing Jill and John’s wedding just up the road here in Durham, so I’m pleased to now be able to share some of my favourite photos from Jill’s Rose Hill Plantation bridal photography session from a few weeks ago. Readers of the blog will know I shot another bridal session out at Rose Hill back in the summer, so it was great to be back on a beautiful, golden autumnal evening. I never like to repeat myself if possible, so we shot in totally new locations throughout the house and grounds. Jill looked amazing and we came away with some gorgeous, unique images. Seeing two of my photos printed large on fine art cotton fibre paper, matted and framed at the reception was lovely to see. Any guesses as to which ones they were? Feel free to let me know in the comments below…

Just before Christmas, I got together with the lovely Rachel for her bridal session at Duke Chapel. She and Kevin were married two days later and images from that fab day will be coming soon. In the meantime, here are a few of my faves from the sesh. It was pretty parky out so full marks to Rachel for suffering for her art. Big props to Rachel's mum, Donna, for all her help too!

In the meantime, I'm pleased to be able to share some photos from Sara's recent bridal photography session. This was a fun but challenging shoot as it started raining pretty heavily just a few minutes into the session and then rained off and on for the duration. This meant that we were restricted to shooting under cover a lot of the time, which forced me to think differently and get creative to obtain the widest variety of images possible whilst keeping Sara and her be ...

My first love, when originally starting out in the wedding photography business, was wedding photojournalism. I was a bit of a purist back then, so documenting moments using available light was really what made me tick and I paid little attention to portraiture and even less to posing, using artificial lighting, etc. But I am driven to always work on and improve my skillset to be able to produce images in a wider range of conditions and styles, especially in the area of portraiture. The bridal photography session, for example, was quite a foreign concept for me when I first moved to North Carolina back in the autumn of 2010. As a Southern tra ...
