durham wedding photographer – jill’s bridal portrait session

Bridal Session

On Saturday, I had the pleasure of photographing Jill and John’s wedding just up the road here in Durham, so I’m pleased to now be able to share some of my favourite photos from Jill’s Rose Hill Plantation bridal photography session from a few weeks ago. Readers of the blog will know I shot another bridal session out at Rose Hill back in the summer, so it was great to be back on a beautiful, golden autumnal evening. I never like to repeat myself if possible, so we shot in totally new locations throughout the house and grounds. Jill looked amazing and we came away with some gorgeous, unique images. Seeing two of my photos printed large on fine art cotton fibre paper, matted and framed at the reception was lovely to see. Any guesses as to which ones they were? Feel free to let me know in the comments below…

The bridal session is a very Southern tradition indeed, but one I do enjoy, even as an Englishman! Whether it be a separate shoot as part of a dress-rehearsal for the bride, or some time taken on the adding day itself, it's really nice to take some time with the bride to get some pictures of her in her wedding dress. The shot above was actually taken at a recent wedding in Cincinnati between the wedding ceremony and reception. We had about 5 minutes during the cocktail hour to take some photos of the bride, which isn't much, but that is sometimes all we get to work with. As you can see though, the autumn colours combined really well with t ...

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of documenting Katie and Jeremy's beautiful wedding in Wake Forest, NC. I'll be posting some wedding photography from their big day in a few weeks. In the meantime, though, here are a few of my favourite shots from Katie's bridal session a few weeks back. It was a pretty cloudy day, but we had a lot of fun taking pictures around Katie's parents' home and on the grounds of the seminary in Wake Forest. When the sun did come out for 5 minutes, we definitely made the most of it! Thanks to Katie and her family for such a fun day. I look forward to posting pictures from Katie's wedding soon!

Back in the early spring, I spent an afternoon with the lovely Elizabeth shooting her bridal photos ahead of her wedding this summer. When Elizabeth had originally contacted me, she was looking to do a session that would allow her to pay homage to her late mother, whose veil she would be wearing on her wedding day. We took that concept and ran with it as the base for the session. When we met up, I also found Elizabeth's elegant look to be reminiscent of a 50's film star, so that played into the mood and feel of some of the images. Incorporating these themes along with the spring colours into the session, I think we came away with something pr ...
