raleigh portrait photographer – jackie’s maternity session

Portraiture

One of the best things about my job is being there with my clients to document the story of their family as it grows in the years after the wedding. Just over two years ago, I shot Jackie & Rob’s engagement session, followed by Jackie’s bridal session in January of 2016 and their gorgeous wedding photographs the month after that. So I was really thrilled when Jackie and Rob reached out to me to let me know they are expecting their first child and I was looking forward to seeing them again for their portrait session celebrating Jackie’s maternity a few weeks ago. We started out by taking a relaxed stroll around JC Raulston arboretum before heading back to catch the last remnants of sunset in the fall foliage outside their beautiful new home a few miles away. Cristel and I are looking forward to seeing them again here in a few weeks and meeting the new addition to the family when Cristel takes care of their newborn baby photography!

Here are just a few favourites from our fab session. I know Rob and I are biased, but doesn’t Jackie look absolutely stunning!??

Hi everyone, It's been a fun few days since we got back from vacation, but I have been itching to get out and shoot again. The crazy weather has forced a number of postponements, so I was really pleased that Wednesday's forecasted storms held off in order to be able to go and meet up with Zach and his fantastic Mum and Dad, Yvonne and Scott. We got some really nice shots outside in their lovely big garden as well as in and around the home. Zach was really chilled out the whole time and only resorted to hinting politely when he needed his nappy changed or another feed. I am on a roll with my newborns! Anyway, one of the things that struc ...

Monday was a brilliant day for me as I got to follow up a really fun engagement shoot with a family session with my good friends Clay and Emily and their son Evan. The evening's events started off at Hap's Irish Pub, which was really apt as it was there that I first met up with Clay and Emily Bond almost 11 years ago. Clay and I used to work together and when I was shipped in from London with my old work friends Sean Grant (and his wife Jo) and Tracey McNabb, Clay and Emily were the people that set about making us feel welcome and essentially lining up entertainment for us on the weekends. I think one day that October, we watched a football m ...

raleigh wedding photographer – image of the week: no. 13
I've spoken before about the use of light and it is something I try to focus on with my work, especially during portrait sessions and the times of the day when we have some time to actually go out and "make some pictures". On the wedding day itself, however, time is normally a precious resource and it's not always easy to conjure up nice images out of thin air. There are many factors to work with: light, trying to work out how to make the most of the environment you are in, distractions from the wedding party itself, etc. This week's image is a good example of how just a little bit of legwork and thought can help find a great spot to work wit ...
