pinehurst family photography – melissa, matt (+ mae)

I seem to be making a mini-trend here with the 5 year anniversary/family photography thing. After photographing Hannah & Andrew (married 06/02/2018) with their newborn baby, Micah, at the beginning of June, I wrapped up the month with Melissa & Matt (married 06/30/2018) with their 20-month old bundle of energy, Mae!

I really do hope this trend continues because: a) it’s so great to catch up with my couples on these milestone dates and watching their families grow, and b) I have a lot of fun in the process!

I definitely think my perspective as a dad of two girls (one teenager and one soon-to-be teenager) has shaped my approach to these kinds of shoots over the last few years. I see them as happy times, but also ones that will be looked back on with a little bit of nostalgic melancholy in the years to come when the kids have grown up and our relationship with them has evolved.

So here are a few photos from Melissa & Matt’s 5-year anniversary shoot. When we met at the Village Arboretum, there was a pretty heavy thunderstorm in full effect, so we took shelter and chatted for a bit to catch up and let Mae get used to me a bit. The good thing with evening thunderstorms is that, afterwards, the light can be pretty magical. So when the rain finally did stop we were rewarded for our patience and we spent the next hour or so having fun exploring the arboretum with little Mae.

Anyone looking for an anniversary shoot, family session or combination thereof, please do give me a shout! We will definitely have a lot of fun and get some beautiful photographs for you to look back on and cherish when the little buggers have grown up!

And without any further blather, here are my picks of the pics. Thanks to Melissa, Matt & Mae for a fun Friday evening!
