Wedding Photography

Wedding Ceremony and Reception: Crabtree’s Kittle House, Chappaqua, NY

Hair and Make-Up: Static, White Plains, NY

Assistant Photographer: AnyaFoto, New Milford, NJ

Being asked to shoot a wedding for anybody is always an honour; being asked to shoot the wedding of another wedding photographer is a nerve-wracking honour! And so it was with a mixture of excitement and trepidation that I accepted my friend Peter Forman‘s request to photograph his wedding for him and his fiancée, Jess.

We’d only really met briefly last year at Cliff Mautner’s Lighting and Skillset Bootcamp in Philly, and so I was very surprised and flattered when Peter called me back in February to ask me about my availability.

I was doubly pleased to be assisted on the big day by another workshop buddy, the extremely talented Anya Roudenko of AnyaFoto. It was great catching up, seeing her in action and experimenting a little bit. She has a very different style to mine, but one I admire very much indeed.

The wedding day itself was very British with its grey and rainy weather, but that didn’t dampen the fantastic mood of the bride and groom and their friends and family. In fact, it was one of the most fun weddings I have had the pleasure of covering. Things definitely got interesting on the dance floor as the night progressed!

Here are just a few of my personal faves from the day:

This week's photo is a favourite of mine from a wedding I shot last October in Cincinnati. This was a fun day for me to shoot as the bride is an old friend of mine from when I first moved to the USA from the UK back in 1999. The reception was held in a marquee in the back garden of her parents' gorgeous house overlooking the Ohio valley and that is where this shot of their first dance was taken. I think it's pretty obvious why I like it: this was the split second when the bride made eye contact with me and the expression in her eyes is just priceless. You can't see her the whole of her face, but you don't need to; she just looks so incredibly ...

Sarah & Jake were married back in February in a beautiful, intimate ceremony at St. Mary's School Chapel in downtown Raleigh followed by a full-on party at their reception at The Umstead. These are two amazing venues for a wedding: Built in 1855, St. Mary's Chapel has a fabulous vintage feel to it, which beautifully complemented Sarah's dress and Jake's classic tuxedo look. Conversely, The Umstead, which opened its doors in 2007, is a super modern design with sleek, elegant architecture that provides a fabulous backdrop for the getting ready and wedding reception part of the day. I really enjoyed photographing the fusion of the feel of th ...

raleigh wedding portrait session – michelle & clay
A couple of weeks back, I headed down to Hope Mills, just outside Fayetteville, to spend a few hours around sunset in the company of Michelle and Clay. Rather than going with traditional wedding photography for their day, they wanted to just take some portraits ahead of time, which sounded like a fun idea to me. So with a couple of cameras, a fab location and a whole lot of juicy golden hour light, we sallied forth and went for a stroll with the sole purpose of having some fun and seeing what we came up with. Here are just a few of my fave frames from their sesh. Cheers, guys! ...
